For those members of the Sewell Barn who have been around rather longer: news is just in of the passing of a much-loved member of the Old Guard. Alwyn Edgar was a talented and lovely gentleman, who died peacefully last week at the age of 97.
Alwyn and his lovely wife Janet - still with us at 91 - were much involved in shows at the Barn for many years. The photograph below shows Alwyn backstage as Justice Shallow in Carole Lovett's production of The Merry Wives of Windsor (July 2011); he was well known locally as a fine actor and also a talented violinist.
Alwyn's son William writes: "It would be lovely to welcome anyone from the Sewell Barn to the commemoration. We will have a funeral, and then afterwards a celebration of his life back at the house. Here are the details: Friday September 4th, 11am, St Faith's Crematorium, 75 Manor Road, Horsham St Faith, Norwich, Norfolk NR10 3LF; then afterwards at Bridge House, Parish Road, Stratton Strawless, Norwich NR10 5LP."
We send our love and condolences to Janet and William, and to all Alwyn's family and friends; and enjoy the memories of a truly kind and gentle man, and a long life well lived.
"What sad news. He was a truly lovely man. He lived his life with great enthusiasm." Robert
"Such a beautiful soul. Such a caring, kind man & fellow creative." Miche
"He was not only talented and erudite but funny and kind. He was also one of last of the Bevin Boys and proud of it - though a more unlikely coal miner is hard to imagine. A great loss." Clare
"A lovely actor. A lovely man. An expert on the Highland Clearances. Love and sympathy to Janet & Family." Noel
